Chelsea are now thinking a lot more about the idea of trying to sign Brighton’s Evan Ferguson this summer.

That is according to well-respected journalist Simon Phillips.

Evan Ferguson, who’s still only 19, is an extremely highly-rated young striker.

He’s scored 16 goals in 58 first-team games in Brighton colours, so it’s no surprise he’s been frequently linked with a potential move away from the Amex Stadium.

Simon Phillips has reported on Wednesday afternoon that Ferguson is now more firmly on Chelsea’s radar ahead of the next transfer window.

He wrote on his Substack: “I understand Evan Ferguson of Brighton has also come much more to the forefront of Chelsea’s thinking for a new striker this summer…”

Phillips added that there’s some uncertainty over the potential transfer fee, which is believed to be too expensive.

However, he claims that Mauricio Pochettino’s side will continue to watch the 19-year-old frontman closely for the rest of the season ahead of the summer.

Chelsea thinking about Evan Ferguson

You’ve certainly got big pressure on your shoulders when legendary Premier League striker Alan Shearer rates you. We’re sure Ferguson’s phone was buzzing last summer when Shearer described him as a “very special talent” in The Athletic.

The Evening Standard claimed last month that Chelsea are long-term admirers of Brighton teenager Ferguson.

In fairness, he stands out very easily on the eye test when you watch him as a powerful young centre-forward.

Our one concern dealing with Brighton is we’ve massively overspent recently signing their best players. For Chelsea, they shouldn’t be pinning all their hopes on Ferguson definitely becoming the next big thing, especially as he’s a teenager.

At the same time, we’d support the Blues signing him if there’s a realistic reasonable fee.
