Chelsea now value their loanee at around £25m due to his development away from the club in the 2024/25 season.

The Chelsea squad was a gigantic size before the campaign started, so it made sense for them to sell and loan a lot of players in the summer. At this stage, many individuals have benefited massively from loan spells away from Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea had loan offers for Tyrique George in January, but the youngster stayed put and is getting minutes in the first team.

Djordje Petrovic valued at £25m by Chelsea

One of the most intriguing loan exits from Chelsea was the deal that saw Djordje Petrovic, 25, join sister club Strasbourg in the French top division on a season-long loan.

Even though the Serbian gloveman was the first-choice keeper for the Blues during a large spell of the 2023/24 campaign, he was allowed to leave on a temporary basis.

According to BBC Sport, Chelsea loaned out Petrovic to Strasbourg due to worries about his ability to play out from the back, which is a key component under current head coach Enzo Maresca. Apparently, the general feeling is that the shot-stopper has benefited from his loan move so far and developed his footwork.

The report explains that Petrovic could return to compete for a spot at Chelsea next season or potentially be sold. It is believed that the goalkeeper is now valued at around £25m, which may be enough to put off suitors.

Maresca demands Chelsea’s goalkeeper plays from the back, so it’s certainly a highly-pressured position on the pitch.

Recent claims suggested that Petrovic may not have a role at Chelsea as the starting keeper, although he could return to be a back-up option.

Djordje Petrovic has impressed in Ligue 1

When you reflect on how Filip Jorgensen and Robert Sanchez have done in net for Chelsea so far this season, it makes the decision to loan out Petrovic feel pretty daft.

The on-loan Strasbourg goalkeeper is enjoying a great campaign for a team sitting seventh in the French top division.

Unless Chelsea are prepared to spend big on a new elite gloveman in the summer, Petrovic could be the most logical option to start next season as the starting goalkeeper for them. At the very least, he’d deserve pre-season under Maresca to prove the improvements he’s made with the ball at his feet.
