Xabi Alonso’s imminent arrival at Chelsea will mark a new era at the club and is likely to mean a lot of changes.

Exits are expected this summer, with Enzo Fernandez and Marc Cucurella being heavily linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge.

It has been claimed that Manchester United are now interested in signing Cucurella, who is also a target for clubs in Spain.

Where would Chelsea have finished if they signed Mike Maignan last summer?

Chelsea put Gabriel Slonina up for sale

One Chelsea player who will definitely be leaving west London in the upcoming transfer window is Gabriel Slonina.

According to BBC Sport, Slonina is not part of Chelsea’s plans and has been informed that he can leave the club this summer.

The Blues signed Slonina from Chicago Fire back in 2022, but the goalkeeper has failed to make a single appearance for them.

Currently, Slonina is behind Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge. He will fall even further down the list once Mike Penders returns to the club following his loan at Strasbourg.

The goalkeeper position is something Chelsea supporters will be monitoring once the transfer window opens.

Chelsea could sell more than one goalkeeper in the transfer window

Slonina is not the only goalkeeper who is set to leave Chelsea. Jorgensen is also expected to depart after failing to oust Sanchez from the starting XI.

Sanchez is not safe himself amid the Club World Cup holders’ interest in AC Milan star Mike Maignan.

After targeting him in the last summer transfer window, Chelsea are considering Maignan once again.

Sanchez will not want to be No.2, meaning the Spaniard, Jorgensen and Slonina could all leave Chelsea. Supporters will not have too many complaints about that if the club land Maignan, who is considered one of the best shot-stoppers in European football.

Defensively, Chelsea were not good enough last season. The arrival of a goalkeeper of Maignan’s calibre should help them to improve in that area.
