Chelsea are readying a bid for Ivory Coast’s World Cup star Yan Diomande, The Chelsea Chronicle has been told.

RB Leipzig are determined to keep hold of Diomande this summer, but the Blues could test the waters with a huge offer.

While Leipzig’s preference is not to sell the winger, a deal is still not being completely ruled out.

Chelsea could sign Yan Diomande before sending him back to RB Leipzig on loan

Diomande impressed Joe Cole at the World Cup, and the former Chelsea attacker could get a chance to see him play at Stamford Bridge next season despite Leipzig’s current stance.

Transfer insider Ekrem Konur has told The Chelsea Chronicle that the German club may be willing to sell Diomande if he is loaned straight back to them as Chelsea prepare a €100m (£84.7m) bid for his signature.

On Chelsea’s interest in Diomande, Konur said: “Chelsea have placed Yan Diomande on their radar as they look to strengthen their attacking options in the summer transfer window. While they are reluctant to meet RB Leipzig’s valuation of over €120 million (£101.6m), sources indicate Chelsea are preparing to test the waters with a €100 million bid. The London club also aim to secure the player on a five-year contract with personal terms agreed.

“Diomande is understood to have made general commitments to several clubs, and speculation regarding his departure grew during the World Cup.

“On the other side, RB Leipzig have taken an internal decision not to sell Diomande this summer. The only exception being discussed is the possibility of the winger returning to Leipzig on loan for another year if a deal is struck. Furthermore, the German club is actively working on extending his contract (which currently runs until 2030) with a significant salary increase.

“Diomande’s future remains one of the most closely watched stories of the transfer window. Chelsea’s financial stance, Leipzig’s determination and the player’s own ambitions will ultimately shape how this saga unfolds.”

If the Club World Cup holders do submit an official proposal for Diomande, they could face competition from Premier League rivals Liverpool.

Liverpool are also keen on Diomande as they prepare for life after Mohamed Salah following his decision to leave the club.

The 19-year-old is capable of playing on both wings so could replace Salah at Anfield.

Yan Diomande’s World Cup stats

Despite failing to score a goal at the World Cup, it was easy to see why there is so much hype surrounding Diomande.

One-v-one, the Ivorian was devastating. After playing four games at the tournament, he had an average of 2.5 dribbles completed, according to WhoScored.

Diomande also made 2.8 key passes per match and managed to register one assist. From what the Leipzig star showed at the World Cup, he has the potential to become one of the most dangerous wide men in European football.

With Alejandro Garnacho set to depart, Chelsea are very likely to sign a new attacker this summer. Diomande now appears to be very high on their list.
