Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that Chelsea would be ready to meet Borussia Dortmund’s demands to sign Jude Bellingham next summer.
The Blues are set to be a piece in what will surely be one of the biggest transfer sagas in footballing history, with nearly all of Europe’s elite clubs set to be interested in signing the 19-year-old.
After showing more than a few glimpses of his ability in his first few seasons of professional football, he is now becoming a regular quality performer in the Bundesliga and Champions League.
Now though, he is showing this ability on an international level, with him taking the majority of the headlines during England’s recent Nations League fixtures.
One Three Lion he was featuring alongside this week was Chelsea man Reece James, who has previously described the 19-year-old as ‘very good’.
Chelsea prepared to meet Dortmund demands
Jacobs has claimed that although Chelsea will be facing serious competition for Bellingham’s signature, the type of deal they can offer could see them become Dortmund’s ideal suitor.
He said: “Manchester United have work to do. Bellingham sees Champions League football as essential. Chelsea are also keeping tabs on Bellingham and would be prepared to structure a deal in very preferable manner for Dortmund. But like United, Chelsea are not currently frontrunners.”
The signing is likely to provide one of the world’s top teams with a midfielder to build their team around for over a decade, and is therefore an extremely important signing for anyone to make.
With Chelsea potentially set to lose N’golo Kante due to an unwillingness to offer him a long-term contract, it will take a world-class replacement to ensure his absence is not missed too badly.
With the quality Bellingham has shown at just 19 years of age, he would certainly be one of a few the Blues should consider as a replacement.
