Chelsea reportedly want to sign £49m star Lampard said was a 'great talent' and the perfect role model for CHO
Frank Lampard has already given his verdict on Raheem Sterling, following claims Chelsea might consider putting in a bid for the Manchester City forward this summer.
Yesterday, reports emerged linking Sterling with a sensational and somewhat surprising move to Stamford Bridge before next season.
The 27-year-old’s contract with the newly-crowned Premier League champions expires next June, and there has been some debate whether he will extend his stay.
Chelsea might look to pounce on this uncertain situation, as they prepare for a potentially major reshuffle of Thomas Tuchel’s squad.
Time for Callum to kick on
At least one of the many attackers available to Thomas Tuchel might find themselves on the market next month, either by choice or pushed out of the door.
Romelu Lukaku, Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech have all been mentioned as possible causalities, following a relatively poor campaign for each of them.
It appears the only two senior offensive players safe from the chop, at the moment, are Mason Mount and Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Mount goes without saying; he was recently named Chelsea’s Player of the Year for the second season in a row.
He is very much in the thinking of Todd Boehly and could well earn a new contract once the ownership officially changes hands.
Meanwhile, Hudson-Odoi will feel he deserves another chance, after his term was cruelly ended prematurely because of injury.
His last appearance was on the 2nd of March against Luton Town in the FA Cup.
Lampard gives his verdict on Sterling
Still only 21, the Cobham academy graduate has plenty of room for growth, improvements that were evident when he was available, mainly in the months leading up to Christmas.
But whilst the hypothetical arrival of Sterling from the Etihad could place another hurdle in Hudson-Odoi’s way, his former manager actually thinks it might benefit him.
“I don’t like to talk about other club’s players but Raheem Sterling is an incredible example of a player with great talent, whose work ethic added to that talent and improvement in a short period of time through absolute dedication, has seen him become a complete player, who we are all wowed by,” said Lampard back in 2019.
“He is a great model for Callum because Callum has those talents.”
Perhaps the £49m (BBC) City star is just the ingredient Hudson-Odoi needs to bring him back to life.
