Chelsea scouts will go to watch ‘very special’ Premier League attacker this season

Chelsea scouts will reportedly be busy looking at two specific strikers in the early stages of this season, including one attacker in the Premier League.

It’s well documented in the transfer rumour mill that Chelsea attempted to sign a new centre-forward in the closing stages of the summer window. But eventually, they ran out of time to add another No.9 to their squad.

Journalist Kaveh Solhekol reported via X that Chelsea’s pursuit to try sign Victor Osimhen went down to the final 20 minutes. The Napoli frontman may not have secured a switch to Stamford Bridge, but he’s since moved to Turkish club Galatasaray on a season-long loan.

Chelsea scouts to watch Evan Ferguson and Benjamin Sesko

Journalist Simon Phillips has now reported via Substack that Chelsea still like both Brighton’s Evan Ferguson and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, who are two very exciting young centre-forwards.

It is explained that Chelsea will have top scouts watching both Ferguson and Sesko in the early stages of this season.

Brighton’s Ferguson is yet to play a minute this campaign as he recovers from an ankle injury. However, the 19-year-old’s close to a return to the pitch because he’s currently with the Republic of Ireland squad during the international break.

As for Sesko, 21, he’s started the new season with one goal and two assists in his opening three Leipzig appearances across all competitions.

Evan Ferguson is a very interesting target

There’s no doubt that Ferguson is an extremely talented teenager, scoring 16 goals in 65 first-team appearances in Brighton colours so far. Naturally, the youngster’s still seeking to find consistency in his game, but there’s been flashes of real brilliance in the Premier League.

Speaking via The Athletic last September, Alan Shearer described Ferguson as a “very special talent”, which is a compliment of the highest order.

Brighton’s youngster is built like a powerful striker, so it’s no surprise there’s a lot of hype from supporters around him

One reservation we have is that he fits into the mould of a player with potential rather than being the ready-made product. If Chelsea are serious about signing another forward to compete with Nicolas Jackson, we’d prefer the finished article in the shape of someone like Osimhen.
