Chelsea could reportedly turn their attention towards a £38m-rated Premier League midfielder once Conor Gallagher’s exit to Atletico Madrid is finalised.

The Chelsea academy has developed so many quality players over the years, including Conor Gallagher. Unfortunately, the transfer speculation suggests that the 24-year-old Blues midfielder is on the brink of a move to Spain.

It’s been claimed by The Telegraph that Atletico have agreed a £33.7m deal to sign the Chelsea star, with Diego Simeone’s conversation with Gallagher a contributing factor.

Chelsea looking at Joao Gomes

According to FootballTransfers, Chelsea and Manchester United are two clubs that may be interested in signing Wolverhampton Wanderers star Joao Gomes.

It is explained that Premier League club Wolves value their talented 23-year-old player at around £38m, which is a transfer fee within reach of the two aforementioned teams.

The report says that Chelsea currently have their eyes on Gomes. Apparently, they could step up interest in the Brazilian after the sale of Gallagher to Atletico.

Despite only arriving at Molineux Stadium 18 months ago, Gomes has become a key player in the Wolves squad and is a combative yet skilful central midfielder. As a result, he’s now playing in the Brazilian national side and has eight senior caps to date.

Joao Gomes is a superb talent, but do the Blues need him?

Gomes is certainly an attractive transfer option, especially for under £40m. The South American star is a central midfielder, who sometimes sits as a No 6, and is a great performer in the Premier League.

Wolves manager Gary O’Neill described Gomes as “fantastic” back in April, as quoted by Express and Star.

It’s probably fair enough to say that Man United probably need the Wolves star more than Chelsea right now, largely because the Blues midfield is stacked.

Gomes could find it hard breaking into the starting line-up at Stamford Bridge when you consider the Blues already have the likes of Romeo Lavia, Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Lesley Ugochukwu and Carney Chukwuemeka competing for a spot.
