Chelsea have decided they need to step up their interest in signing Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise.

That is according to a report from The Guardian.

They claim that Blues attacker Christopher Nkunku, 25, is expected to be absent for 16 weeks with the knee injury he picked up in pre-season.

As a result, Chelsea will respond by increasing their interest in Michael Olise.

The report adds that the 21-year-old’s release clause in his Palace deal is higher than the £35million fee quoted by other media outlets.

We’ve heard various rumours this summer that Olise is a name on Chelsea’s shortlist. Now, it sounds like they want the French attacker signed in this transfer window.

Gianluca Di Marzio reported earlier this month that Chelsea have ‘concrete’ interest in Olise and will consider playing him in a No 10 position if he joins.

His success so far in Palace colours has mainly come playing as a right-winger, where he loves to drift infield on his favoured left foot.

Interestingly, he finished eighth last season in the Premier League for most chances created (72) in the division, as cited by the league’s official website.

Described as “very gifted” by Gary Lineker on Twitter (January, 2022), Olise has gone from strength to strength during two years in the Premier League.

Our feeling is that the sky is the limit for the creative youngster.

Nkunku, who looked very sharp during his first pre-season as a Chelsea player, is going to leave a big hole during the first few months of the season. We wonder if Olise is the kind of goalscoring threat that can help solve that problem.
