Chelsea are still in talks to sign Gabriel Moscardo from Corinthians – and the Blues are now said to be favourites ahead of Arsenal.
That is according to Brazilian news outlet Lance.
So, what is the latest on Chelsea and Gabriel Moscardo? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well – according to Itatiaia – Corinthians are actually keen to sell the 17-year-old to Chelsea, as there is a £13m release clause in his contract available to Brazilian clubs.
Chelsea are currently offering a lot more – the Blues have already bid €25m (£21m), although Corinthians want €30m (£26m) according to Lance.
However, Chelsea still seem well placed to sign Moscardo.
Lance describe Mauricio Pochettino’s side as favourites to sign the teenager ahead of Manchester City, Arsenal and Barcelona, all of whom are admirers of the South American wonderkid.
It is specifically said that Chelsea find themselves in a strong position as Moscardo is represented by Giuliano Bertolucci.

Chelsea recently did business with the agent on two occasions, as he also represents Angelo Gabriel and Deivid Washington.
Lance add that Chelsea intended to start talks over Moscardo in the summer of 2024, but are keen to wrap things up now to beat the competition.
Gabriel Moscardo deal is another confusing move for Chelsea fans to digest
We have already criticised Todd Boehly’s obsession with young talents, and this update is another strange examples of the American’s scattered priorities.
These are the kind of deals clubs do when their first-team is settled and succeeding.
However, Chelsea are spending huge amounts on players for the future, when Pochettino doesn’t even have a truly world class goalkeeper or striker in his squad, which are arguably the two most important positions for any successful side to have sorted out.

That is not to say Moscardo isn’t going to be an important player for Chelsea one day if the deal goes through, as he seems to be a fantastic talent.
However – when the Brazilian eventually arrives at Chelsea in 2024, as seems to be the case – the Blues may still be out of European competition if Boehly does not strengthen the spine of Pochettino’s starting XI in January.
