Chelsea are prepared to sell Marc Cucurella in the January transfer window.

That is according to a report from ESPN.

They claim that Chelsea are willing to listen to offers for Marc Cucurella, 25, ahead of a possible exit in the New Year.

It is explained that the Blues would prefer to get rid of the Spanish defender on a permanent basis to try go someway to balancing the club’s books.

Cucurella impressed last night with his performance in Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Brighton in the Carabao Cup. However, that’s not prevented speculation today that he may still exit Stamford Bridge.

The Spanish defender, who’s recognised as a left-back, filled into an unfamiliar right-back position against Brighton. He did so very effectively, too.

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino said Cucurella “showed character” this week in his performance against Brighton, as quoted by Football.london.

Will he still be at Stamford Bridge for the second half of the season, though?

The Sun reported earlier this month that Spanish giants Real Madrid are considering a possible move in January to sign Cucurella on a short-term loan deal.

It’s been a tough time for Cucurella in West London since joining from Brighton in 2022, which is why many may expect him to move on to revive his career elsewhere.

The fact Pochettino hasn’t played him yet in the Premier League is quite telling, so our guess is his long-term future is elsewhere. Let’s wait and see if he’s thrown a lifeline after Wednesday night, though.

The £175,000-a-week star (Spotrac) is still a very capable defender when he’s fully concentrated and aggressive with his play.
