Chelsea have confirmed that Marc Cucurella has joined Real Madrid after a four-year spell at the club.
Chelsea signed Cucurella from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022, and he slowly became one of the team’s most important players.
He helped the Blues to win both the Club World Cup and Conference League trophies last year.
However, Chelsea have had some concerns about the 27-year-old and always seemed open to letting him go this summer.
Who would you rather see at left-back next season, Jorrel Hato or Lewis Hall?
Hall is being linked with a return to Chelsea following Marc Cucurella's move to Real Madrid 🇪🇸
According to The Guardian, the club feel that Cucurella’s level really dipped in the second half of last season, making now a good time to offload him.
The defender’s contract was running down, while Jorrel Hato also finished the 2025/26 campaign strongly, giving Chelsea more reasons to sanction a sale.
Even though the Club World Cup holders have Hato, the arrival of a starting-level left-back still looks possible.
Chelsea have Lewis Hall and Maxi Araujo on their radar, while they could also raid Cucurella’s new club for his replacement.
According to journalist Simon Phillips, Chelsea have made checks on Real Madrid’s Alvaro Carreras.
There is no denying that there was a decline in Cucurella’s form post-Enzo Maresca. Nevertheless, there are many supporters who will be disappointed with the club’s decision to sell the Spaniard.
How would you rank Chelsea’s so-called “untouchables” ahead of the new season?
Here is The Chelsea Chronicle's list!
Since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over Chelsea, fans have not been happy with the transfer strategy, which has seen the club focus on signing mostly young players. Cucurella was one of the few experienced footballers the Blues had in their squad.
On top of that, despite not being at his best last term, Cucurella is just a brilliant full-back overall. He can defend, attack and absolutely annoy his opponents with his antics.
Hato showed a lot of promise under Liam Rosenior and Calum McFarlane, but losing Cucurella is still a bit of a blow.
