Chelsea are tipped to be lining up a move to sign a highly-rated Serie A star who’s on Newcastle United’s radar.
The Blues have been at the heart of the transfer rumour mill so far this summer, with plenty of incomings and outgoings at Stamford Bridge.
It’s been claimed that Chelsea have agreed a £43m deal for Ajax’s Jorrel Hato, so the 21-year-old defender is expected to become the latest new face in Enzo Maresca’s squad. In addition, Fabrizio Romano claims there’s a 70% chance Xavi Simons joins Chelsea this summer, with the RB Leipzig attacker strongly linked with a move to West London.
Fresh reports now suggest that the Blues have another transfer target in their sights.

Chelsea getting bid ready for Giorgio Scalvini
According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Chelsea are now interested in signing Atalanta star Giorgio Scalvini this summer.
Apparently, the Blues are preparing to make an ‘initial offer’ for the 21-year-old defender, which could be submitted shortly.
The report adds that Maresca’s side intend to try to wrap up a quick deal for the ball-playing centre-back. Even though Serie A club Atalanta don’t plan on allowing Scalvini to leave, they could find it hard to refuse any offers in the region €60m (£52m).
It is worth noting that Eddie Howe’s Newcastle team have been linked with a move for the Atalanta rising star this summer.
The Chronicle reported this month that Scalvini is on Newcastle’s summer shortlist because he’s someone who’s been on their radar for the last couple of years. In fact, journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed via X that the Atalanta ace is a main target at St James’ Park.
In terms of Scalvini’s profile, he’s a really exciting young defender, playing 107 senior games for Atalanta. However, it’s worth noting that he’s not played a lot of football because of an ACL injury followed by a shoulder problem.

Do Chelsea need to another centre-half?
Even though the Blues have plenty of options in the heart of defence, it looks like they are going to push hard for Atalanta’s Scalvini. While we think the Italy international could be a superb addition, do Chelsea really need to go after another centre-back?
It already looks like a strong crop of central defenders at Stamford Bridge with Levi Colwill, Tosin Adarabioyo, Wesley Fofana, Trevoh Chalobah and Benoit Badiashile. Also, Chelsea view imminent signing Hato as a hybrid defender, who can cover both centre-half and left-back.
We think that Chelsea will need to offload one of their current defenders if the Scalvini signing becomes a reality.
