Chelsea are reportedly closely interested in a move for Lyon full-back Malo Gusto.

Gusto, 19, is a young defender currently impressing in the first team of French Ligue 1 side Lyon.

The right-back will cost £35million to sign during the January transfer window, as relayed by the Daily Mail. They say Manchester United and Newcastle United are keen on the France Under-21 international, too.

Malo Gusto interest

According to L’Equipe yesterday, Chelsea are determined to strengthen in defence before this month’s window shuts.

It is explained that Graham Potter’s side are taking a ‘close interest’ in Gusto, but Lyon really want to keep him until the end of the season.

The report adds that the Blues are yet to submit an official bid for the teenage rising star. They want to become active in the coming days, though.

It definitely looks like Chelsea are hunting down a signing at right-back in January, so the eye-catching spending in the transfer window may not be over quite yet.

Journalist Simon Phillips has told GiveMeSport that Potter’s side have held talks this week about Real Valladolid’s 18-year-old right-back Ivan Fresneda.

He’s a youngster impressing in La Liga. Similarly, Gusto is now a first-team regular in Ligue 1 with his side.

These look like the type of profiles that could be ideal competition and cover for Reece James.
