Chelsea have reportedly made a last minute approach to sign Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Chelsea have made an enquiry for the 25-year-old central midfielder.

It is understood that the Blues wanted to find out if Inter would be prepared to sell the Italy international, but they’ve responded with a ‘resounding no’.

Barella’s a key player in Simone Inzaghi’s team, scoring six goals and making seven assists in 25 appearances so far this season.

With the midfielder’s deal still under contract at the San Siro, it’s no real surprise Chelsea have been met with a firm answer.

Barella is another new name to pop up for Chelsea on deadline day, which makes it look like the club are in a panic to bring a new midfielder to Stamford Bridge.

Sky Sports has explained this afternoon that the Blues are in talks with Bayern Munich to sign 28-year-old midfielder Marcel Sabitzer.

Many Chelsea fans will hope to hear positive news regarding the Enzo Fernandez saga. It sounds like Graham Potter’s side are working tirelessly on deadline day to bring in another new recruit still, though.

Barella is a really ambitious target to try get in the final few hours of a window.

It would be great to see the midfield powerhouse in the Premier League further down the line, but Inter would surely put a high valuation on his head.

Antonio Conte, who previously managed Barella at Inter, once said the player was “perfect in every respect” after a performance against Juventus a couple of years ago.
