Chelsea won’t decide the future of on-loan star Joao Felix until later in the season.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Blues haven’t yet made their minds up regarding the future of the 23-year-old attacker.
The Portuguese star is looking very impressive in Chelsea colours right now after joining on a short-term loan last month from Atletico Madrid.
Romano adds that Felix will want to be guaranteed a key starting position before moving to Stamford Bridge on a permanent basis for the 2023/24 campaign.
It sounds like supporters will need to wait a few months still before learning the player’s fate for next season.
“Chelsea won’t make a decision on Joao Felix now. I think it will be April/May when they will decide on the Joao Felix situation. Also with the player… he wants to be a starter. There are many points to decide together between Joao Felix, his agent and Chelsea,” Romano told House of Champions: A CBS Soccer Podcast.
According to The Evening Standard earlier in February, Chelsea may have to fork out as much as £80million to sign Felix from Atletico in the summer transfer window.
There’s been so much to love about the attacker’s cameos in Graham Potter’s side so far, but it would mean even more investment to a squad that’s cost so much to assemble.
The Atletico Madrid-owned gem is dazzling in the No.10 creative position.
Once he finds his shooting boots, Chelsea could have a serious player on their hands during the months ahead.
The Chelsea fanbase already seem fairly certain they want Felix for the foreseeable future, but it’ll be interesting to see if all parties agree.
There’s definitely a lot that can happen from now until the end of this season.
