Enzo Fernandez is reportedly preparing to undergo a medical in Portugal ahead of a potential move to Chelsea, but Blues officials are still working to get a deal finalised with Benfica.

According to Sky Sports on its transfer deadline day blog (3:49pm, 31 January), Fernandez is getting ready to have a Chelsea medical today in the Portuguese capital.

It is explained that the 22-year-old midfielder may have his Blues medical in Lisbon, which is where Chelsea officials are currently working to get the transfer sorted.

Sky Sports reported: “We understand club officials are in Lisbon as they work to get this deal over the line. And – with time running out to complete it on transfer deadline day – we are told they are making plans to medically assess the midfielder in the Portuguese capital.

Enzo Fernandez latest

If Fernandez is getting ready for a medical, Chelsea fans may grow a little more hopeful that this deal could actually happen this evening.

The Sun claimed earlier today that Fernandez has already informed his Benfica teammates he’ll be completing a move to Stamford Bridge.

Fabrizio Romano previously explained that Chelsea are willing to pay €120million (£106million) across various installments for Fernandez, but they’re yet to strike an agreement with Benfica.

Chelsea fans need to hold on just a few more hours to learn Fernandez’s fate.

It’s been a gruelling watch for supporters to find out if the Argentine sensation would become a Chelsea player, with transfer rumours picking up in the last couple of days after links earlier in January.

Hopefully, this top-class central midfielder is holding up a Chelsea scarf by the close of the deadline.
