Manchester United are reportedly confident they’ll be able to sign Bayern Munich’s Marcel Sabitzer, despite transfer links with Chelsea as well.

Sky Sports reported earlier today that Man United and Chelsea had both made offers to sign Sabitzer on the January transfer deadline day.

Apparently, the 28-year-old midfielder is someone that Bayern are willing to sell or loan out because he’s not a key player in their XI.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Man United are ‘confident’ that they’ll be able to pull off a deal today to bring Sabitzer to Old Trafford.

The report explains that the recent injury to Christian Eriksen has been the catalyst for their interest in Bayern’s central midfielder.

He’s now considered as the main target for Erik ten Hag’s side during the final hours of the January window, so will they be able to get this deal over the line?

With Man United confident of securing a deal, where does it leave Chelsea in their own quest to sign a midfielder?

Described as “excellent” by Julian Nagelsmann a couple of years ago, Sabitzer proved at previous club RB Leipzig he can be a real force in the centre of the park.

Unfortunately, he’s not quite managed to show his best form at Bayern Munich to break into the best line-up.

The £165,000-a-week ace is certainly a wild name to appear on deadline day and Chelsea supporters shouldn’t be too downbeat if they miss out on his signature to Man United.

However, there’s real worry about the state of the Blues squad during the second half of the season if Enzo Fernandez doesn’t join and Jorginho goes.
