Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala is the one signing that Chelsea would absolutely love to make.

That is according to well-respected journalist Simon Phillips.

Phillips has reported via his Substack on Thursday afternoon that Jamal Musiala is the ‘dream target’ for Chelsea during next summer’s transfer window.

It is explained that the Blues do have genuine interest in signing the 20-year-old playmaker.

However, Mauricio Pochettino’s side would need the pull of Champions League football to stand any kind of chance in a transfer pursuit.

In addition, the Germany international may only consider leaving Bayern for either Real Madrid or Manchester City.

Chelsea unlikely destination

We’re not overly surprised to hear Musiala’s unlikely to leave Munich unless one of the world’s elite sides comes knocking. For now, this young Chelsea side isn’t in that bracket.

The attacking midfielder has emerged as one of the world’s very best young stars in recent years.

He’s now played 135 first-team games for Bayern, winning four Bundesliga titles so far. Incidentally, his goal on the final day of last season clinched the league crown for the Bavarians.

Chelsea fans don’t really need any reminder that he’s someone previously on the books of the Blues academy. Journalist Simon Phillips previously reported via his Substack that Chelsea may have been able to keep hold of Musiala in 2019 if they had offered him a better deal.

Jamal Musiala position

Musiala looks like one of the world’s most exciting stars in a No 10 position, with the expressive freedom to drift between midfield and attack. Described as “special” by Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel (Bavarian Football Works), he’s so technically astute and mature beyond his years.

Of course, we’d welcome a player with his ability to Stamford Bridge with warm arms. It’s not the end of the world that we’re unlikely to get him, though.

Chelsea fans are yet to see him this season due to a frustrating injury, but Christopher Nkunku is the goalscoring playmaker waiting to burst to life in West London. Once fit, the 25-year-old Frenchman could be a key source of goals for the Blues.

Simon Phillips has reported via his Substack yesterday that Nkunku may return from his knee injury and be available to make his Chelsea debut before the end of 2023.
