Granit Xhaka isn’t the only player Chelsea plan on signing this summer, as the potential plan to replace Enzo Fernandez still remains.
Chelsea are actively exploring a reunion between Xabi Alonso and Granit Xhaka as the club shifts toward adding proven Premier League leadership. Following a successful season at Sunderland, the 34-year-old midfielder has emerged as a top target for Alonso, who has been driving the pursuit himself.
This comes as Enzo Fernandez’s long-term future at Stamford Bridge hangs seriously in the balance. Real Madrid are yet to step up talks for the World Cup winner and Chelsea are demanding £120 million.
While Chelsea is holding out for closer to £120 million, Fernández’s strong desire to join Jose Mourinho’s project has left his midfield spot wide open, perfectly clearing the path for Xhaka’s arrival.

Chelsea still interested in Adam Wharton
MaxFSport provided an update on the transfer situation surrounding Granit Xhaka, suggesting that Adam Wharton will remain a target, even if the Sunderland man signs.
‘Understand that as of today, a potential Granit Xhaka signing does not impact another addition, if Enzo Fernandez leaves.
‘Xhaka is an explicit Alonso recommendation. Drives standards and Alonso wants his profile. Chelsea know Xhaka wouldn’t be a long term addition, so still hold interest in Adam Wharton.
‘Crystal Palace currently asking too much money and #CFC haven’t sold Enzo yet.’

A Wharton deal would only be possible if Enzo leaves
Chelsea’s pursuit of Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton is entirely dependent on Enzo Fernandez potentially moving to Real Madrid.
Crystal Palace’s massive £100 million valuation means a deal cannot advance without the necessary capital from Fernandez’s exit.
Should Enzo stay, Chelsea will already potentially have Granit Xhaka, as well as left-sided midfielder Valentin Barco, plus Moises Caicedo, Andrey Santos, Dario Essugo and Romeo Lavia, so splashing out on yet another central midfielder would be highly unlikely.
