Chelsea currently view Ajax’s Mohammed Kudus as their priority target for the number 10 position.

That is according to well-respected journalist Simon Phillips.

Reporting on his Substack, Phillips claims that Chelsea’s interest in Mohammed Kudus this summer is ‘serious’.

It is explained that the Blues are looking at the 22-year-old Ajax star as their man target to fill the number 10 role at Stamford Bridge.

In addition, the club are big admirers of the attacker’s versatility. The left-footed speedster has proven his quality in numerous midfield and forward roles in his short career so far.

The Athletic explained last month that Ajax may want as much as £40million to sell Kudus.

So, will Chelsea press ahead with interest in the Ghana international this summer?

It certainly looks like the Blues interest in the Africa forward is hotting up, especially now he’s been identified as someone to play in the No 10 role for them. Phillips claimed last week the Ajax man was only a potential target for Chelsea.

If Kudus does join Mauricio Pochettino’s squad to be used as a central playmaker, we would be very interested to see where Mauricio Pochettino plans to use new recruit Christopher Nkunku.

Nkunku has proven he can be effective as a secondary striker ghosting into No 10 pockets, but perhaps we’ll see more of him leading the line or on the wing.

Kudus scored 18 goals across all competitions last season for Ajax, including four in the Champions League.

Aged 22, he certainly fits the mould of recent Blues signings when it comes to recruiting some of the best emerging talents out there.

However, Ajax’s attacker does have some decent experience under his belt already. It would be quite a big leap to walk straight into the Chelsea line-up next season and improve it from day one, though.
