Chelsea’s ‘dream target’ for the summer transfer window – it’s not Liam Delap or Dean Huijsen

There may actually be a player above Liam Delap and Dean Huijsen on Chelsea’s shortlist of transfer targets.

Delap and Huijsen are two individuals who have been heavily linked to the Blues as they look to strengthen their frontline and defence.

Delap is looking for a lot of money, but Chelsea will only have to pay a £30m transfer fee for the striker following Ipswich Town’s relegation to the Championship.

As for Huijsen, the defender is thought to have a £50m release clause in his contract at Bournemouth. While Chelsea are keen on both him and Delap, they appear to be dreaming about another player.

Nico Williams is Chelsea’s ‘dream target’

Chelsea are also interested in Nico Williams, and the Athletic Bilbao winger may actually be at the very top of their list.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Williams is Chelsea’s “dream target”, though he is not the only wide man they are currently looking at.

Discussing the Blues’ transfer plans in his column for GiveMeSport, Romano said: “Chelsea are surely looking for a new winger to bring in soon and [Morgan] Rogers is one of the players they appreciate, perfect in terms of age and skills.

“He’s considered similar to Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Bynoe-Gittens who’s high on the list along with dream target Nico Williams, but the price tag could be an issue for Rogers.”

With Chelsea interested in Williams, Rogers and Gittens, then, it looks like they will be bringing in someone who can play out wide this summer.

Landing Rogers could be tricky, though. It is being reported that Aston Villa have no plans to sell Rogers in the upcoming transfer window.

While Williams may be admired at Stamford Bridge, signing him will not be an easy task either.

Nico Williams’ wage demands

The kind of contract that Williams’ people are demanding is likely to block a move to Chelsea this summer.

It has been claimed that Williams’ representatives are eyeing a £400,000-a-week deal for their client, which would shatter the Blues’ wage structure.

With that in mind, while Chelsea may be able to entice the likes of Delap and Huijsen to Stamford Bridge, they could encounter a real sticking point with Williams.

His wages are probably why he is currently seen as a “dream target” by the bosses at Chelsea.
