It’s been an up and down first season for Filip Jorgensen in Chelsea colours.
Chelsea completed the signing of young goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, 22, from Villarreal last summer.
The Danish shot-stopper has racked up a decent amount of appearances so far in his debut campaign as he competes with 27-year-old teammate Robert Sanchez for the starting position.
| Competition | Appearnaces | Goals conceded | Clean sheets |
| Conference League | 7 | 5 | 3 |
| Premier League | 6 | 9 | 1 |
| Conference League qualifiers | 2 | 2 | 1 |
| Carabao Cup | 2 | 2 | 1 |
| FA Cup | 1 | 0 | 1 |
Even though Sanchez has been the starting keeper in the Premier League for the majority of the season, a window did open for Jorgensen in 2025. In fact, he started four league games in succession during February against West Ham, Brighton, Aston Villa and Southampton.
In February, Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca named Jorgensen as the league starter. It took just a few appearances before he was dropped again, though.
Speaking in mid-March, Maresca said Sanchez regained his starting position and is expected to start in goal for the remainder of the league fixtures this season.

Chelsea still believe in Filip Jorgensen
According to Football.London, Chelsea still retain ‘full faith’ in Jorgensen despite a rocky first year with them.
In addition, the report says that the Blues believe in Sanchez as well.
It should be reassuring for Jorgensen to hear that Chelsea’s stance on him is still a positive one. In fairness, it’s worth remembering that it’s the youngster’s first taste of English football and he’s still relatively inexperienced at senior level.
| Club | Appearances | Clean sheets |
| Villarreal | 44 | 7 |
| Chelsea | 18 | 7 |
As you can see above, Jorgensen is still a long way off 100 first-team matches in his career. Perhaps the supporters should stick with him and allow him to develop over time.
It was previously claimed that Chelsea think Jorgensen has ‘elite potential’, along with Blues loanee Mike Penders.

Chelsea should consider loan for Filip Jorgensen
If you see what’s happened with Chelsea-owned goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic, it could be worth the Blues considering sending Jorgensen out on a season-long loan.
Petrovic, 25, competed for a starting position at Stamford Bridge last season. At the time, it felt a bit harsh when he was loaned out this campaign to sister club Strasbourg, but he’s been a huge success in France.
Petrovic has received rave reviews at Strasbourg and could get the opportunity to play at Chelsea next season.
When you weigh up that Jorgensen is still young, inexperienced and pretty raw on the ball, we think a temporary spell away from the spotlight could be huge for his development.
