West Ham have now opened talks with Chelsea about a potential deal for Conor Gallagher.
That is according to Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor.
Conor Gallagher, who’s part of Chelsea’s 29-man squad that has travelled to the United States for pre-season, is now linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge.
It’s not the first time this summer there’s been rumours about his possible exit. Journalist Ben Jacobs told CaughtOffside earlier this month that Newcastle manager Eddie Howe does like £40million-rated Gallagher.
Now, there’s suggestions that West Ham have made their move for the England international.
Journalist Ryan Taylor has claimed that West Ham have now held opening discussions with Chelsea about Gallagher.
He reported on Twitter: “Understand West Ham have also held talks over a deal to sign Conor Gallagher, who has today flown with Chelsea to North Carolina as part of their pre-season tour of USA.”
Gallagher is with Mauricio Pochettino’s squad in the United States for the pre-season trip, but will his long-term future be at Stamford Bridge?
The 23-year-old midfielder is a popular academy graduate at Chelsea with lots of potential, but he did struggle last year during his first season with the senior squad.
In our view, Chelsea are too threadbare in the centre of the park right now to even consider selling Gallagher.
The box-to-box central midfielder disappointed a lot of supporters last season as he failed to reach the heights he showed out on loan in Crystal Palace.
However, it was a very disrupted campaign last year where most of the Chelsea players struggled.
Our guess is that Mauricio Pochettino is the the type of head coach that could drive the best out of him, so we want to see him get this pre-season tour at the very least.
