Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is a big admirer of Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher.

That is according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

The future of Conor Gallagher, 23, is certainly an interesting topic during this transfer window.

It was a mixed season for him last year in the Blues senior squad, but he’s one of the last remaining first-team midfielders after several high-profile exits from Stamford Bridge already this summer.

So, will the England international still be playing his football in Chelsea colours next season?

Jacobs has tipped Newcastle to try sign a creative midfielder during this window, with Gallagher someone highly rated by the manager at St James’ Park.

Apparently, Chelsea want around £40million to sell their box-to-box midfielder.

“I still expect them (Newcastle) to move for a creative-minded midfielder. Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher is a player Eddie Howe likes. Chelsea would prefer a sale not a loan and value Gallagher around £40m,” Jacobs told CaughtOffside.

Speaking on the ‘London is Blue’ podcast last month, journalist Matt Law claimed that there’s still a possibility Gallagher could be sold by Chelsea during this window if the club receives a very good bid. He did add that Mauricio Pochettino’s coaching staff is looking forward to working alongside the 23-year-old Blues midfielder, though.

The Daily Mail mentioned Newcastle’s interest in Gallagher earlier in the summer window. However, they value the England international at £25million, someway off the Chelsea price tag.

Gallagher’s sale hasn’t been completely ruled out in transfer speculation, but it sounds like a lot of work will need to be done for him to end up on Tyneside.

Described as “fantastic” by Graham Potter (Football London), Gallagher could be in for a big season at Chelsea if he stays and adapts quickly under Mauricio Pochettino.
