Brighton are now prepared to smash their transfer record to sign Levi Colwill from Chelsea after his successful loan spell.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano.
So, how high are Brighton willing to go in order to sign Levi Colwill from Chelsea? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, Romano has now revealed that Brighton are preparing a club-record bid worth £40m.
As things stand, Brighton’s club-record signing is the £30m Joao Pedro.
It comes after the reliable Italian journalist claimed last week that the Seagulls had made a £30m bid for Colwill, which Chelsea immediately rejected.
Romano states that the Blues have no interest whatsoever in selling the England Under-21 international, who made 17 Premier League appearances for Brighton during the 2022/23 campaign as the Seagulls finished sixth.
Mauricio Pochettino is even said to be keen on tying Colwill down to a new contract – according to The Times – with the Argentine impressed by what he has seen from the defender during his time away from management.
Chelsea have to be careful in Levi Colwill saga
Now, this is a very delicate situation for Chelsea – to say the least.
The Blues – according to talkSPORT – are trying hard to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton after missing out on a deal for Manuel Ugarte.
Therefore, it is important for Chelsea not to upset Brighton in their pursuit of the £15,000-a-week Colwill.

If Pochettino didn’t want to sign a player from the Seagulls, it would be easy for Todd Boehly to tell Brighton to get lost and end their interest in the 20-year-old.
However, that wouldn’t be a wise thing to do, as burning bridges with Brighton would surely end any hope Chelsea have of signing Caicedo, with Arsenal also interested in the Ecuador international – as detailed by The Times.
As things stand, it seems Chelsea may have to agree to at least loaning Colwill back to Brighton if they are to have any chance of signing Caicedo, but only time will tell how the situation plays out.
