Club talks with £70m player over a new contract have gone badly, Chelsea being kept informed

AC Milan have reportedly had unsuccessful talks with Mike Maignan about a new contract at the San Siro.

This comes at a time that the Milan goalkeeper is rumoured to be a Chelsea transfer target.

Mike Maignan, 28, is the number one keeper for Italian giants Milan and the French national team.

TEAMtalk recently claimed that Chelsea are eyeing £70million-rated Maignan as they keep watch for top-class goalkeepers.

Now, there’s a fresh suggestion that the shot-stopper has had a disagreement with his club.

Contract talks hit stumbling block

90min has claimed today that Maignan is considering his future at the San Siro amid interest from the likes of Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.

It is understood that the 28-year-old started talks with Milan over a new deal, but the conversations have not gone well and an agreement between parties is not imminent.

Our guess is that the Serie A club will try again and attempt to extend a deal that is currently due to expire in the summer of 2026.

Chelsea target Mike Maignan

We would take Maignan in a heartbeat at Stamford Bridge if he was made available to sign.

Chelsea are sticking with Robert Sanchez as their number one gloveman this season.

There’s no doubt in our mind that Milan’s star is a considerable upgrade, though.

Sanchez, 26, had a very busy Wednesday night in Chelsea colours that captured the good and bad of him. He actually kept the score down with some magnificent saves in yesterday’s 2-1 loss away to Manchester United, but his poor distribution when playing out from the back was on display again.

We question whether Sanchez does have the kind of ceiling to play for a team hunting silverware.
