Chelsea have managed to convince Marco Palestra to move to Stamford Bridge this summer, despite Inter Milan’s confidence of securing a deal – and details of his contract are now emerging.
With Marc Cucurella gone and Malo Gusto being strongly linked with Enzo Maresca’s Man City, Chelsea have identified the need to bring in new full-backs. Palestra is set to join the club from Serie A’s Atalanta.

Serie A's Best Defender of 2025-26.
It is believed a fee of £43m is set to change hands, with Chelsea willing to pay more than Inter Milan to get the two-time Italy international. Not only that, but Chelsea have offered Palestra more in wages too.
Chelsea have got their hands on Palestra, and it sees them make their first signing of the Xabi Alonso era, but also the first wielding of power by the new manager. Alonso is said to have green-lit his arrival.
How long will Marco Palestra’s contract at Chelsea last?
It has already been reported that Palestra will earn north of £100,000 a week at Stamford Bridge this season. Perhaps a big wage considering his age, but he was named Serie A’s best defender of 2025-26.

According to Italy journalist Marco Barzaghi, Palestra will also be handed an incredibly long-term deal following his arrival at Chelsea. Barzaghi claims Palestra has signed a seven-year contract until 2033.
“The arrival of Chelsea, who, with a completely crazy offer, blew the bank. Inter didn’t even raise the bid. 60m to Atalanta – 6m for the player; Chelsea are doing it with a 7-year contract. It’s unbeatable,” he said.
Why have Chelsea paid so much to sign Palestra?
As aforementioned, Palestra was voted Serie A’s best defender last season after a remarkable season on loan at Cagliari from Atalanta. It mostly came from right-back, where Palestra feels most comfortable.
What are your thoughts on the Enzo Maresca and Man City saga?
Chelsea believe, however, that Palestra can play in as many as four positions. Both sides of the defence at full-back, and both wing-back positions. He offers cover on the left, and likely starts on the right.
Gigi Buffon is a massive fan of Palestra, and that says it all. While BlueCo have made a great deal about signing more experienced players, Alonso pushed for Palestra and has got him. An exciting addition.
