'Could now leave': PL club are pushing to sign 21-year-old Chelsea player on loan, decision is soon - journalist

Callum Hudson-Odoi could reportedly leave Chelsea during this summer transfer window amid interest from English rivals.

According to well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Premier League club Southampton are pushing to sign Hudson-Odoi and have already asked to take him to St Mary’s on loan.

It is understood the Blues discussed the 21-year-old in conversations with Leicester City recently, too.

Romano says there’s a chance the attacker could now exit Stamford Bridge, with an imminent decision made by the player set to take place in the next few days.

Hudson-Odoi wasn’t part of Chelsea’s match day squad for the 1-0 away win at Everton on Saturday, so you’ve got to wonder where he fits into Thomas Tuchel’s plans.

Apparently, the decision lies with the Blues academy graduate regarding his own future. If he wants minutes for his development, you’d like to think he could go be a key player at either Southampton or Leicester during a loan this season.

You wonder if him heading to the King Power Stadium help Chelsea in their reported attempt to sign Wesley Fofana from Leicester?

Hudson-Odoi could leave Chelsea

This is a huge transfer decision for Hudson-Odoi to make.

He’s been around the first-team picture at Chelsea for several years and many regard him as one of the best ever talents out of Cobham.

Unfortunately, the quick winger’s senior career hasn’t quite lived up to the hype yet.

The fact Tuchel has used him as a wing-back at times can’t be something he enjoys, but you could picture the attacker playing a key role on loan elsewhere this season as a forward.

Hudson-Odoi is a fan favourite that supporters are absolutely desperate to be a success. He’s shown glimpses in recent seasons of what he can do with his dribbling and energy.

However, the player may feel like the best step in his career is to get a full season of Premier League football under his belt.

In our view convincing Hudson-Odoi to stay and Tuchel using him regularly in his best position would be the preference. There’s definitely big room for improvements in the forward line, so it feels like places are up for grabs in the squad.

At the same time, it’s not too late for 21-year-old Hudson-Odoi to have a great Chelsea career further down the line once he improves out on loan.
