Crystal Palace are reportedly one of the frontrunners in the transfer race to sign Chelsea’s £50m player.

It’s been claimed that Crystal Palace are one of the clubs interested in signing a Chelsea star, so could the London rivals conduct business again in the New Year?

The Premier League sides agreed a deal in the summer that saw Trevoh Chalobah move to Selhurst Park on a season-long loan. So far, 25-year-old defender Chalobah has played just once in Palace colours, starting in the defeat to Liverpool before the international break.

Crystal Palace in Ben Chilwell pursuit

Respected journalist Simon Phillips has claimed via Substack this week that Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell is attracting interest from several clubs ahead of the January window.

It is explained that Crystal Palace, Fulham, Manchester United and Ipswich Town are the most interested sides from the Premier League. There’s been approaches from teams in La Liga and Serie A, too.

Phillips adds that most of the English suitors for Chilwell are currently offering loan deals until the end of the season, with either an option or obligation to buy. Chelsea won’t entertain any loan with option offers, although it’s not been completely written off if there was some kind of realistic clause that turns the option to an obligation.

In addition, Palace are mentioned as one of the most “serious clubs” to watch in the transfer race for the 27-year-old defender.

Chelsea star deserves January move

Despite all the speculation in the summer, Chilwell ended up staying put at Stamford Bridge. As a result, he’s only played one first-team game this season after Enzo Maresca made it clear he’s not in his plans.

The £50m left-back (Sky Sports) has had some fantastic moments as a Blues player, including winning the Champions League. However, he’s mostly sat around watching from the sidelines right now during what should be the peak years of his career.

In fairness, Chilwell would be a superb addition for any of the aforementioned clubs.

Now that Thomas Tuchel has been officially confirmed as the new England manager, the left-back should have one eye on an England recall. He’s simply got to be playing to make that dream a reality, though.
