Chelsea need to get rid of many players this month to reduce the squad size – with a fair few on Enzo Maresca’s chopping block.
Chelsea’s co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart have got their work cut out for them in the last two and a half weeks of the window.
Despite indulging in a summer 2024 clear-out, Chelsea still have several players seeking moves away.
As inevitable with any club, some names are looking to leave due to wanting more game time – but there are also a few outcasts that have been frozen out by Enzo Maresca.
Luckily for Chelsea, new information has been revealed that could help them at least temporarily find a solution for two of the shunned Blues stars.

David Moyes likes Ben Chilwell and Carney Chukwuemeka
Matt Law via The Telegraph reports that Everton manager David Moyes could be interested in signing Ben Chilwell and Carney Chukwuemeka this month.
Chelsea are thought to be open to sanctioning a departure for Chukwuemeka, whilst Chilwell is also not in the long-term project at Stamford Bridge and has been frozen out by Enzo Maresca, only featuring one time this season against Barrow in the Carabao Cup in September.
A key bit of context toward any potential deals is that it is thought that Everton would prefer loan moves for one or both.
To make the loan moves feasible, Everton would also need to free up a domestic loan spot by releasing Armando Broja or Jack Harrison.
Interestingly, Broja is on loan from Chelsea and recently got injured again. He will be out for 10-12 weeks.
This could allow Everton to release him back to Chelsea whilst also simultaneously making a move for Chilwell or Chukwuemeka.
Would these moves make sense for Chelsea?
In terms of reducing the Chelsea squad size and moving out unhappy players, yes. However, there has to be some annoyance that players like Carney, Chilwell and Disasi are not yet attracting permanent interest.
Chilwell would be the player that would most make sense, even on a loan, because he is training away from the first team and eating up valuable wages.
Carney Chukwuemeka is a player that Chelsea rate highly, however, he does not fit into Maresca’s plans due to the volume of number eights and tens at the club.
He would also likely struggle at Everton to recapture his form given Moyes’ pragmatic style of play.
Carney is a player who thrives with the ball at his feet and driving at defences regularly. It is uncertain that a Moyes team would give him that type of freedom.
There is no sense of panic from Chelsea yet, but outgoings must get ticking along soon with the window slamming shut on Monday 3rd February.
