Fabrizio Romano has claimed on his YouTube channel that Chelsea are beginning to grow in confidence that they can agree terms with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang over a deal to Chelsea.
The Blues have established the Barcelona man as their main target for the attack for the remainder of the transfer window, with there being less than two weeks until it closes.
Chelsea have boasted a fluid attack in their opening two games, however an array of big chances missed in the draw against Spurs reminded fans that the goal threat is still lacking.
This is despite the signing of Raheem Sterling, who is part of the illustrious Premier League ‘100 club’.
This has left Thomas Tuchel leading the charge for a reunion with his former player, who he worked with at Borussia Dortmund.
Chelsea and Aubameyang met yesterday
It appears the club are getting closer to a deal, with Romano claiming they are becoming confident after talks with the player’s camp.
He said: “They had a meeting during the evening with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s camp. The meeting was on personal terms, more than Barcelona’s side. Chelsea want to understand how much Auba wants as salary and also how many years of contract.
“These are the details being discussed between Aubameyang and Chelsea. Chelsea have a feeling the player would be ready to accept, but it’s important to understand the conditions of this contract.”
While it is likely to be only a short-term deal for the Gabon international, his Premier League goalscoring pedigree would be a welcome feature at Stamford Bridge, with him showing he’s still got it in his half-season at Barcelona.
The issue with fans may be to do with his notable attitude problems, however they should have faith that Tuchel will be able to bring the best out of him.
