Brendan Rodgers has warned Chelsea in his post-match press conference that he will not be selling Wesley Fofana this summer.

The Blues are reportedly in the process of putting a bid together for the 21-year-old, after missing out on a number of defensive targets.

However, it is believed they are aware of the difficulty they will face as they attempt to secure the deal, with Leicester City in no mood to sell.

After not yet making a signing this summer, the club have been preparing for the new season with the same squad as last year, with them beating Sevilla 1-0 last night.

With Fofana’s importance to the club’s defence on show when he missed a large section of last season through injury, Rodgers has confirmed that there are no intentions to play without him again this season.

He said: “Wesley Fofana is not for sale. End of.”

The Blues have been struggling with their attempts to add another centre-back to their ranks since the acquisition of Kalidou Koulibaly earlier this summer, with the position one the club have been desperate to strengthen before the season starts.

With there now being just five days before the Blues’ curtain raiser against Everton, it can be expected that they’ll table a competitive bid for Fofana instantly, in an attempt to avoid any long, drawn out negotiations.

Either way, it is likely Thomas Tuchel is currently planning for the first few games with the players he currently has at his disposal, whilst also likely secretly fuming with how the summer has gone.

Earlier this summer, he was promised six new signings to help build a team to compete with Manchester City and Liverpool this season. However, he is currently at two, with Gabriel Slonina poised to become the third before he is loaned straight back to the MLS.

With the new owners under massive pressure from an angry fanbase, it is likely to be a big few weeks for the higher ups at Chelsea.
