After walking away from Chelsea back in January, Enzo Maresca is looking to make us of his links at his former club at Manchester City.
Enzo Maresca’s sudden departure from Chelsea left a distinctly bitter taste among fans, but more so due to the way the hierarchy forced him out almost. The owners refused to give Maresca control, telling him when he could and couldn’t use injured players, as well as a disagreement over his salary.
Yet, inside the dressing room, the mood was one of genuine heartbreak. Chelsea’s players had completely bought into Maresca and appreciated his highly communicative approach to man-management.
Which is no surprise when you see the success he achieved in such a short amount of time, with silverware via the Club World Cup and Conference League.
Realistically, how much is Liam Delap worth?🤔
Enzo Maresca wants Malo Gusto to join him at Man City
Journalist Marco Barzaghi has claimed on his YouTube channel that Malo Gusto has been made Manchester City’s top right-back target ahead of Marco Palestra.
“City, among other things, is moving on the instruction of Maresca, on Malo Gusto whom he knows well from Chelsea, more than Palestra, about whom we have no confirmation that they ever came forward to offer.
“Someone even wrote in Repubblica that Palestra already had an agreement with City that was absolutely not confirmed.”
If you’re the president of a football club, who do you hire first: Jose Mourinho or Xabi Alonso?🤔
Put the bias aside!
Malo Gusto would be difficult to replace
Malo Gusto has grown into an indispensable asset for Chelsea, consistently holding down the right-back role with Reece James spending long periods out through injury. Making 49 appearances in all competitions last season, it even allowed James to move into midfield on a number of occasions.
His engine and attacking intent make him absolutely perfect for the demanding right wing-back role in incoming manager Xabi Alonso’s signature 3-4-2-1 system. Plus, he has the defensive recovery speed to track back alongside the three center-backs, combined with his crossing ability.
However, Josh Acheampong is seen as an untouchable by Chelsea, so perhaps they see a future with him and James, should Gusto leave the club.
