European giants have zero chance of signing £47m Chelsea target this summer

Chelsea will not have to worry about one of their targets joining one heavyweight of European football this summer.

It has been a transfer window where Chelsea have already missed out on a couple of players.

While the Blues were keen on Michael Olise, the winger ended up joining Bayern Munich instead of moving to Stamford Bridge. They were also interested in Benjamin Sesko, but he decided to sign a new contract at RB Leipzig.

Sesko recently explained why he chose to remain at Leipzig despite interest from some top Premier League clubs.

Chelsea may not be able to sign another one of their targets, but the good news is he is also unlikely to join one other suitor. It means the Blues could still have the chance to land him next summer.

Nico Williams will not join Barcelona this summer

Chelsea and Barcelona have both been heavily linked with Athletic Bilbao and Spain star Nico Williams.

According to The Athletic, the two European giants have an interest in him and the winger has a £47m release clause in his contract.

Alone, it is not a crazy amount of money in this current market. But things like taxes and wages make it a much more expensive deal than it actually looks.

Whatever the case, The Athletic’s report claims that Barcelona have zero chance of signing Williams in this current transfer window.

There is still a long way to go before the markets shuts, but Athletic Bilbao are convinced Williams will be staying.

Chelsea could sign Nico Williams next summer

With Williams not joining Hansi Flick’s side this year, again, Chelsea could have the opportunity to sign him next summer.

Whether they make a move for him or not, though, could depend on the futures of Raheem Sterling and Mykhailo Mudryk.

While Chelsea have shown an interest in Williams during this transfer window, there probably would not be room for him until they shift one of the two.

Nicolas Pepe recently defended Mudryk after his struggles in the Premier League. The Ukrainian needs to improve, otherwise he could find himself being replaced by Williams or another left winger in the near future.
