Fabrizio Romano reports that Chelsea are edging ever close to sealing the signature of RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku.

Speaking on his own YouTube channel, Romano revealed that a deal for the goal-hungry forward is nearing completition.

There has been a lot of noise for some time surrounding Nkunku’s possible move to Stamford Bridge.

Many fans of the Blues have waited anxiously for any update on the Leipzig attacker they so desperately want to see in their colours.

Their nerves will not be settled until the £53m – the cost Nkunku’s release clause – move is officially complete.

Yet, they can breathe a little easier following Romano’s latest update,

“It’s pretty clear and what I’m told, there is an agreement on club side – Chelsea (and) Leipzig – and an agreement on player side, because Nkunku is happy to join Chelsea,” explained the transfer guru.

“So the deal is verbally ready. Everything is almost ready between Chelsea and Nkunku. Chelsea and Nkunku are more than close.”

When could Nkunku head to Chelsea?

After months of waiting, will Chelsea supporters finally be able to call Nkunku their own?

Well, until at least January, that statement cannot become fact.

Leipzig’s luxurious front-man will first take part in the World Cup with France before making a final decision on his club future.

A future that has so far been teed up by a pretty decent recent past.

He has already scored or assisted 21 times this season in just 22 matches.

Last term, he contributed an incredible 55 goals across all competitions, setting a club-record for most direct involvements.

The previous accolade was held by none-other than Timo Werner, the former Chelsea player who returned to Leipzig in the summer.

Currently a partnership, Nkunku might follow in Werner’s footsteps by heading to South West London.

Hopefully he can be slightly more consistent than Timo…
