ESPN pundit Stewart Robson thinks Sevilla’s Jules Kounde could be an excellent signing for Chelsea this summer.

Kounde, 23, is a La Liga defender that’s strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.

It’s been reported Sevilla want to sell their centre-back as early as possible in the summer window to give them time to find a suitable replacement. It is understood Chelsea are keen to complete a deal for £59million-rated Kounde once the takeover is done and they’re free to enter the transfer market.

Kounde excellent for Chelsea

Kounde is a defender that’s all over Chelsea’s transfer gossip pages, so Blues supporters are excited about the prospect of welcoming him to west London.

The France international has been a key player in Spain for Sevilla this term. He’s got experience in the Champions League and Europa League, too.

He’s a ball-playing centre-half that’s great on the ball, strong in the air, and has big potential. If he signs, let’s hope he can help fill the massive void Antonio Rudiger is leaving behind.

Robson has given a glowing review when discussing Chelsea target Kounde:

“He’s the modern day defender,” Robson told ESPN.

“If you play with a back three, he’s not the biggest player, but he’s got pace. He’s got a good spring as well, so when balls are crossed to the far post, he can still defend those.

“When he makes interceptions, he can still go forward and carry on his run and build up the play. He’s good on the ball, quite calm on the ball. He’s got a feisty side to him as well; he’s not frightened to get stuck into tackles.

“In terms of a right-sided centre-half, he’s an excellent player.”

First signing of the Boehly era?

It’s going to be very interesting to see the first signing under the new ownership.

Glen Johnson was actually the first official signing for Chelsea back in 2003 when Roman Abramovich purchased the Blues.

It’s obvious the Blues need to reinforce the backline before next season begins, so kickstarting with Kounde would be an excellent start.
