Chelsea are reportedly about to let another player leave the club on loan this season.

It’s turning out to be an extremely busy final week of the summer transfer window at Stamford Bridge, with many players seeking exits to go and play regular first-team football elsewhere.

The Blues confirmed on Thursday morning that their goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, 29, has officially left to join Premier League rivals Bournemouth on a season-long loan.

Now, it’s been claimed that another gloveman is on the verge of leaving Chelsea this week before Friday’s transfer deadline.

Djordje Petrovic set to leave Chelsea on loan

Respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed via X on Thursday morning that Chelsea keeper Djordje Petrovic is about to leave the club on a temporary basis.

It is explained that the 24-year-old shot-stopper has agreed new terms with the Blues ahead of a switch to French club Strasbourg on a season-long loan.

Apparently, the paperwork is now being sorted ahead of the goalkeeper’s loan switch.

Petrovic impressed as Chelsea’s number one in-between the sticks during the second half of last season, but the change of management in the summer has altered everything. Robert Sanchez has regained his spot as the first-choice goalkeeper, while new signing Filip Jorgensen is the back-up option.

BBC Sport reported earlier in August that Strasbourg viewed Petrovic as their perfect signing this summer. Therefore, they must be delighted that this deal appears to be close to completion.

Djordje Petrovic has been unlucky

In truth, Petrovic can count himself pretty unfortunate that he’s been frozen out at Chelsea. He’s not the only player to lose their position in the squad under head coach Enzo Maresca, though.

The £14m goalkeeper (BBC) played well last season under Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea, and the defence actually looked stronger with him behind it than Sanchez.

However, it feels like Sanchez has got the nod because he’s deemed better with the ball at his feet. Jorgensen looks like a smart buy from the club, too.
