Fabrizio Romano has claimed on his YouTube channel that Chelsea are closing in on their first signing of next summer in Christopher Nkunku.

The Blues have been reportedly pushing to agree on a deal with RB Leipzig ever since the summer transfer window closed.

Todd Boehly was rumoured to be interested in a deal in the last window, however the Frenchman signed a new deal to stay with the Bundesliga side.

However, it appeared that Chelsea still held a medical with the player this summer ahead of a potential transfer.

Now, Romano has claimed that the fee is beginning to be agreed between the two clubs, with the Blues prepared to pay more than his release clause in order to secure the deal.

Nkunku close to Chelsea

He said: “Now we can say that Chelsea are set to sign Christopher Nkunku. They are closing on in the deal for the summer. For June 2023. It is agreed on the player’s side, he said yes to the Chelsea project a long time ago for a long-term contract. Everything is ready between Nkunku and Chelsea.

“Also, there is a verbal agreement in place between Chelsea and RB Leipzig. The relationship is very good. The agreement is almost there. I’m told Chelsea will pay more than 60 million euros.

“Chelsea will agree on a package with RB Leipzig close to 70 million euros, but with the guarantee that no other club will be able to trigger his release clause in the summer.

“Here we go, soon.”

Despite his talents not being on display at the World Cup due to injury, he has enjoyed another strong season domestically and in Europe.

With the current attack at Chelsea struggling yet again, someone with the goalscoring talents of Nkunku would be the ideal signing for Graham Potter’s side.
