Fabrizio Romano has been discussing the future of Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka amid interest from AC Milan.

It has been claimed that AC Milan have Carney Chukwuemeka on their radar as they look to strengthen their squad this summer.

If the 20-year-old ends up joining them, he would not be the first Chelsea player to move from Stamford Bridge to the San Siro.

Milan have done a lot of shopping in west London recently, signing Christian Pulisic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek from the Blues last summer.

Before that, they snapped up former Chelsea players Olivier Giroud and Fikayo Tomori.

Fabrizio Romano on Carney Chukwuemeka

According to Romano, Chukwuemeka has a £40m release clause in his contract.

However, triggering it and then signing the England youth international will not be an easy task.

That is because Romano has also claimed that Chukwuemeka is currently happy at Chelsea.

Discussing his future on Substack, the transfer expert said: “Chukwuemeka is also happy at Chelsea, so even if a club triggered the release clause, they would have to convince the player, so let’s see what happens.”

Should Chelsea sell Carney Chukwuemeka this summer?

If someone decides to trigger Chukwuemeka’s release clause and he wants to leave Chelsea, then there is not much the club can do.

However, they should not be forcing him out of Stamford Bridge.

Chukwuemeka is a player with a lot of potential and looked really bright at times last season.

He spent most of the campaign on the sidelines because of injury, but when the former Aston Villa player did feature, he was able to make an impact.

Chukwuemeka scored a couple of well-worked goals against West Ham United and Leicester City, for example.

Simply put, it is worth Chelsea persisting with Chukwuemeka a bit longer before contemplating a sale. He needs game time, though, so perhaps a loan move should not be completely ruled out this transfer window.
