The Alejandro Garnacho transfer saga has dragged on in this summer window, but will the Manchester United attacker eventually secure a move to Chelsea?

Chelsea have already signed plenty of quality new forwards this summer, especially in wide areas. However, Man Utd’s Alejandro Garnacho, 21, continues to be linked with a potential switch to Stamford Bridge.

Man Utd head coach Ruben Amorim doesn’t have Garnacho in his plans, so he’s widely tipped for a transfer exit out of Old Trafford.

It was reported earlier in August that Chelsea and Garnacho have agreed personal terms. Next the Blues need to find an agreement with their Premier League rivals for a deal.

Fabrizio Romano provides update on Alejandro Garnacho

Respected journalist Fabrizio Romano claims that “behind the scenes” Garnacho’s move to Chelsea is “very, very advanced” despite the pause in transfer speculation recently.

Romano said via his YouTube channel on Thursday night: “For Alejandro Garnacho, talks in the background between Chelsea and Man United are well underway.

“Chelsea are working on this Garnacho deal. Chelsea have an agreement with Garnacho.

“I know that maybe in the media, it’s not that present. But trust me, behind the scenes, the Garnacho deal is very, very advanced, and very, very active. Man Utd are prepared to sell Garnacho on a permanent transfer.”

Romano explains via X that Man Utd could fund their attempt to sign Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba by offloading the likes of Garnacho. From a Chelsea perspective, it would be great if this long saga concludes sooner rather than later.

Garnacho believes Chelsea are the perfect project for him, even if the reaction from the Blues fanbase has been a little mixed.

The Argentine winger, who usually plays on the left, certainly possesses a lot of fantastic attributes with speed, directness and an eye for goal. He’s proven he can make an impact in the Premier League, too.

Alejandro Garnacho vs Jamie Gittens

If Chelsea wrap up a deal for Garnacho, which sounds increasingly likely, we expect him to compete with Jamie Gittens for the starting left-winger spot at Stamford Bridge.

Garnacho and Gittens, both 21, certainly have plenty of similarities as fleet-footed wingers with pace to burn. While both have extremely high ceilings, it is obvious that they are each still a work in progress.

Chelsea supporters loved Gittens after his performance for them in a pre-season friendly against AC Milan, so we can’t wait to see him replicate that in the Premier League. He could soon have some fascinating competition from Garnacho, though.
