Bayern Munich could be forced to sell Alphonso Davies in the summer in a potential boost to Chelsea.

According to Fabrizio Romano, talks between Bayern and Alphonso Davies over a new contract are not progressing, meaning that the German giants may have to offload the left-back at the end of the season to avoid losing him on a free transfer. His current deal expires in 2025.

The Italian journalist shared the update on The Here We Go Podcast.

Davies becoming available would likely catch Chelsea‘s attention. Journalist Simon Phillips reported last month that the Blues are interested in him.

According to Sport Bild, Real Madrid are keen on the 23-year-old too and could be prepared to pay up to €50m (£43m) for his signature.

Fabrizio Romano shares update on Alphonso Davies’ future

Romano says Davies is no closer to putting pen to paper on a new contract but anything is still possible.

On his podcast, he said: “From what I’m hearing, the situation is still the same since July. I saw in the recent days we had many rumours, many statements about Alphonso Davies, the negotiations, the contract talks. But the information I have is that absolutely nothing has changed or progressed since July as of today.

“Everything can change in 24 hours but, as of today, still no progress in the conversations between Alphonso Davies and Bayern. And obviously timing will be important because if the situation keeps going like this till March, April, obviously for Bayern, the only way will be to sell Alphonso Davies in the summer to avoid any free transfer in 2025.”

Good news for Chelsea

Davies’ contract talks with Bayern dragging on is a positive development for Chelsea.

In the summer, they may very well find themselves having to sign a new left-back. Ben Chilwell keeps on picking up injuries and Levi Colwill, who has been playing there, is naturally a centre-back.

The Blues will not find a better left-back on the market than the Canada international, so hopefully they can get something done.

Right-back is also becoming a problem for the club, with Reece James sustaining yet another injury, which is set to keep him out for a while.
