Chelsea have come up with a couple of ways to replace Marc Cucurella, according to Fabrizio Romano.

On Monday, Chelsea confirmed that Cucurella has joined Real Madrid on a permanent transfer, ending his four-year spell at the club.

Since news broke of Real Madrid’s interest in the 27-year-old, Chelsea have been linked with several left-backs.

Romano has now given an update on the situation, with there being a strong possibility that the Blues do dip into the market to replace Cucurella.

Who would you rather see at left-back next season, Jorrel Hato or Lewis Hall?

Chelsea likely to sign versatile defender to replace Marc Cucurella

Chelsea still have Jorrel Hato, and the expectation is that the Dutch youngster will now get more game time in the left-back position.

However, Romano has revealed that Chelsea are still likely to sign a new left-back, one who can perhaps play in more than one position.

On his YouTube channel, he said: “Chelsea believe Hato can do very, very well, then they are likely to add one more player, maybe who can cover several positions.”

More Chelsea players could follow Cucurella out of the exit door this summer, with Enzo Fernandez also keen to join Real Madrid.

Fernandez’s agent is trying to secure him a transfer, and the Santiago Bernabeu is a potential destination for the midfielder.

The ideal versatile defender for Chelsea

A transfer seems pretty much out of the picture, but there have been some rumours about Chelsea being interested in Riccardo Calafiori.

Calafiori can play at left-back and in central defence. He has experience in England and recently helped Arsenal to win the Premier League title.

If Chelsea are looking for a versatile left-sided defender, Calafiori is perfect. Again, though, Arsenal will be reluctant to sell, while there is little reason for the Italian to leave the Premier League champions for a team who finished 10th in the table and failed to qualify for the Champions League.

Chelsea are also being linked with Alvaro Carreras, who can play in the same positions as Cucurella and Calafiori. He could now be available following Cucurella’s decision to join Real Madrid.
