Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Conor Gallagher was never actually close to leaving Chelsea on deadline day.
He took to Twitter to state that Tottenham didn’t actually send a formal bid to the Blues to try and complete a deal worth in the region of £40m.
Despite all the talk surrounding a departure, Gallagher has proven to be quite an important member of the first team for Chelsea up to now.

He has started every single game this season, off the back of racking up plenty of minutes in the pre-season tour of the United States.
Even with the big additions of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia to play in similar positions to the Englishman, he has remained an ever present under Mauricio Pochettino.
It has been repeatedly claimed that the manager and his staff are big fans of him, and were pushing for him to be kept this summer.

On the other hand, the player being an academy graduate means he holds a large value in the market, at a time where Chelsea are spending big.
However, Romano has claimed that a deal was never actually that close to being struck betweent eh London rivals.

He said: “Understand Tottenham did not send any formal bid for Conor Gallagher on Deadline Day. Interest was there but no £40m proposal despite reports.
“Talks were not advancing as Spurs were never really close to selling Hojbjerg to Atlético. Chelsea, happy to count on Conor.”
Despite Lavia approaching full fitness, he will find it difficult to displace Gallagher from the starting squad for some time.
