There are several Chelsea-related stories bubbling away on Monday’s transfer deadline day for the summer window. In particular, what will happen with Barcelona star Fermin Lopez?

The Blues have been linked with Barcelona’s Fermin Lopez, 22, during the summer period.

Chelsea submitted a bid for Lopez last week after turning their attention to the Spanish attacking midfielder. Incidentally, Barcelona fans have been desperate to keep Lopez, the academy graduate who’s developed into an important first-team player at the Camp Nou.

Fermin Lopez finally decides to stay put at Barcelona

According to Mundo Deportivo, the summer transfer saga regarding Lopez is now over because the player has made the final decision to stay at Barcelona.

It is explained that the young playmaker has had doubts due to Chelsea’s ‘strong interest’, but he’s ultimately decided not to ask to leave and will continue with the La Liga giants. Barcelona are now aware that the individual will be staying with Hansi Flick’s squad.

Even though Lopez’s camp encouraged him to consider joining Chelsea this summer, he will not be making a first move to the Premier League.

The talented attacker, who can play as a No.10 or left-winger, would have plenty of competition for places in West London. We’ve seen that Joao Pedro has stepped up superbly well for the Blues in a central position during the last couple of games without injured teammate Cole Palmer.

Chelsea can cope without Fermin Lopez

While Lopez clearly would have been a top addition to Chelsea’s ranks with his talent and potential, we’re content with not signing him this summer.

It feels like Enzo Maresca’s squad has come together quite nicely in the attacking area, especially after the deal for Alejandro Garnacho was wrapped up. Also, Chelsea have agreed a loan deal for Facundo Buonanotte, even though the transfer has not been confirmed yet.

If the Blues want to make a crazy last-ditch signing on deadline day, we’d prefer it to be at either centre-half or goalkeeper.
