Edson Alvarez – a player Todd Boehly promised to sign for Chelsea – is now close to joining West Ham.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano.
So, what is the situation involving Edson Alvarez and Chelsea? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well – according to The Times – the Mexico international was on Chelsea’s shortlist of summer transfer targets.
Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports even told The Football Terrace that Todd Boehly promised Alvarez he would make another move to sign him, after coming within inches of sealing a deal in the summer of 2022.
Now – however – the Ajax No.4 looks set to join West Ham as a replacement for Declan Rice.
Romano believes West Ham have agreed a deal in the region of £35m for Alvarez, who has already agreed personal terms with the east Londoners.

The 25-year-old will now travel to London for a medical in the next 24 hours, before signing his contract with the Hammers.
It brings an end to the prolonged Alvarez saga – a player who was involved in one of the first significant transfer pursuits since Boehly replaced Roman Abramovich at Chelsea.
One Moises Caicedo alternative for Chelsea gone in Edson Alvarez
The Times stated that Alvarez was only on Chelsea’s shortlist as a backup option for Moises Caicedo, in case negotiations with Brighton collapsed.
A deal for the Ecuador international is still on – the Guardian believe Chelsea are preparing a fifth bid – although Chelsea’s negotiating stance has weakened slightly, now one of their alternatives has joined another club.

Despite Alvarez moving to West Ham, Chelsea do still – however – have Romeo Lavia and Tyler Adams among their backup options, and one of those two could even arrive in addition to Caicedo, according to the Telegraph.
Be sure to keep an eye on developments at Chelsea, as Boehly aims to sign a new midfielder for Mauricio Pochettino.
