Chelsea are now set to miss out on Mohammed Kudus after West Ham agreed a deal for the Ghana international.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano.

What’s the story?

Well, it was actually Romano who first revealed that Chelsea had made a series of phone calls to explore a deal for the Ajax No.20 this summer.

The Evening Standard add that Chelsea even spoke directly to Kudus about a move to Stamford Bridge.

However – after those initial discussions failed to go anywhere – the Ghanaian is now moving to London, but to join West Ham instead of the Blues.

Romano claims Kudus has now passed his medical examinations in London, and will sign a contract running until June 2028 today (Sunday).

Sky Sports believe the deal is worth £38m.

The 23-year-old caught the eye of Chelsea and West Ham after impressively scoring 18 goals in 42 appearances last season, while also providing seven assists.

Kudus has begun the 2023/24 campaign in some style as well, scoring a hat-trick against Ludogorets on Thursday to take his tally to four goals in just three games this term.

Kudus would have been a strong signing for Chelsea

It surprises us that links between Chelsea and Kudus did not progress any further, as he sounds exactly like the type of attacker Mauricio Pochettino wants before deadline day on Friday.

The Argentine actually admitted after Friday’s 3-0 win over Luton Town that he wants a versatile forward who can play anywhere across the frontline.

Kudus can do exactly that, and also fits into Chelsea’s policy of signing young talents at the age of just 23.

For whatever reason, a deal did not happen, and Pochettino will hope the Accra-born forward doesn’t make Chelsea regret missing out by shining at West Ham.
