How Enzo Maresca really feels about Marc Guehi as Chelsea consider re-signing Crystal Palace defender

Chelsea could turn to Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi as they look to ease their problems at the back.

Enzo Maresca has injuries there right now, with both Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile sidelined.

There is confusion surrounding Fofana’s return date, but Badiashile will not be back until February.

Chelsea could now enter the transfer market for a new central defender, and re-signing Guehi seems to be a possibility. The 24-year-old left the Blues for Palace in 2021.

Enzo Maresca likes Marc Guehi

The signing of Guehi is one that Maresca is likely to approve of and not just because his team could do with another centre-back.

According to the Daily Mail, the Chelsea manager is a “huge fan” of the England international, who helped Palace to earn a draw against his former side last weekend.

If Chelsea are not able to sign Guehi this month, then they could recall Trevoh Chalobah from his loan at Palace.

It has been reported that Chelsea are considering bringing Chalobah back to Stamford Bridge despite freezing him out of their first-team squad last summer.

How did Marc Guehi perform in Crystal Palace’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea?

Chelsea saw first-hand what Guehi is capable of in their 1-1 draw with Palace at Selhurst Park last Saturday.

Guehi put in a good performance as he helped Oliver Glasner’s side to limit the visitors to just one goal.

He played the full 90 minutes, making three clearances, two tackles and one interception while on the pitch. The former Chelsea man also won the sole aerial duel he competed in.

Palace will not sell Guehi on the cheap, especially during the middle of the season. Their asking price for him last summer was thought to be £70m.

However, Guehi is now an experienced Premier League defender and has developed into a leader at Palace. It was the ex-Chelsea academy player who captained the Eagles in their recent London derby.

Ultimately, then, if there is a chance for Chelsea to re-sign Guehi this month, then they should.
