Chelsea surprised many people by securing the signing of Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho at the very end of the summer transfer window.
The Blues were busy from start to finish in the transfer window, which they wrapped up by bringing in Jadon Sancho on a season-long loan from rivals Manchester United. The deal includes an obligation to buy clause, too.
Sancho, 24, watched from the stands during Chelsea’s 1-1 draw at home to Crystal Palace in the Premier League. Hopefully, the English attacker is in line to make his club debut after the international break on 14 September away to Bournemouth.
It’s been reported by journalist David Ornstein via X that Chelsea are planning to primarily use Sancho as a left-winger. He’s got the versatility to play anywhere across the frontline, though.

Manchester United lowered Jadon Sancho price
According to The Athletic, Chelsea are delighted about Sancho’s arrival in the final moments of the summer window.
It is explained that the Blues are paying no loan fee for him and are paying a portion of his £250,000-a-week wages.
The report says that one of the reasons Chelsea left the Sancho deal so late is because of United’s £40m asking price, which they eventually decided to lower by a significant amount. Instead, the obligation to buy clause is worth between £20m to £25m depending on what he and Chelsea achieve between now and next summer.
Chelsea take a gamble
Chelsea have taken a risk with the Sancho transfer this summer, but we’ll only know next year if it’s paid off.
The skilful wide player cost United a £73m fee (Sky Sports) to sign from Borussia Dortmund back in 2021. Therefore, he’s clearly got a special quality to make such a high-profile transfer to Old Trafford.
It’s not worked out for Sancho in Manchester during the last few years, struggling to make a serious impact in the Premier League.
He was dominant in German football as a Dortmund player, scoring 53 goals and making 67 assists in 158 games for them. He’s simply not posted the same kind of numbers in English football yet, though.
Based on the potential reward, Chelsea fans shouldn’t be too disgruntled about the £20-25m punt on Sancho. It would’ve been a different conversation at £40m, though.
