Kepa Arrizabalaga feels his relationship with Chelsea has broken down, and the Spaniard now wants to leave in 2024.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano.

So, what is the latest on Kepa Arrizabalaga? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, something seemed off as soon as the Spain international completed his loan to Real Madrid for the 2023/24 campaign.

Kepa admitted at his unveiling in Madrid that he hopes the Spanish giants sign him on a permanent basis next summer, which was an interesting comment given the fact he remains contracted to Chelsea.

Now, Romano has shed some light on what is actually happening behind the scenes.

Speaking on YouTube, the reliable Italian journalist said: “Kepa mentioned that his dream is to continue at Real Madrid, and this is the reality.

“From what I am told, Kepa’s priority is to find another opportunity in 2024. Real Madrid, or another club. He feels that, with Chelsea, something is now broken. This is why the expectation between Chelsea and Kepa is to part ways.”

Chelsea already signed Robert Sanchez in a £25m deal from Brighton before Kepa joined Real Madrid.

The Blues then signed Serbia international Djordje Petrovic from New England Revolution for £14m, so it would appear Mauricio Pochettino has already replaced Kepa, and then some.

Chelsea also have Gabriel Slonina – a £12m signing from Chicago Fire – to think about in the goalkeeping department, so it feels highly unlikely that the Blues will stand in Kepa’s way.

Chelsea should not expect to make much from Kepa sale

Chelsea are staring at a truly huge loss when it comes to Kepa.

The Blues spent £71m to sign him from Athletic Bilbao in August 2018, but would be lucky to receive even £15m for his signature nowadays.

Kepa also earns £147,000-a-week at Stamford Bridge, a salary which nobody is going to want to match.

In truth, Chelsea may have to let the 28-year-old leave on a Romelu Lukaku style loan, and hope the glovesman copperates.

According to the Telegraph, the Belgian took a massive 50% pay cut on his £325,000-a-week wages, as he knew his salary was blocking potential moves.

Hopefully, Kepa puts his career first and does the same if Chelsea struggle to sell him next summer.
